It was a well-made dagger from one friend to another, a present from a craftsman to one who would appreciate it. And if Merida happened to take note of the fine care and detail he'd invested into the plate and sheathe, well so much the better. His own feelings aside, Hiccup didn't think he could claim to being stupid enough to think Merida's feelings had changed one, single bit since their altercation in the laundry room.
For a guy like him? It was just smarter not to get his hopes up.
